Masagos Zulkifli, the Minister of Environment and Water for Singapore, visited the Lab on July 12. Deputy Lab Director Horst Simon gave the minister and his delegation an overview of the Lab, which was followed by research presentations from scientists Amol Phakde, Ashok Gadgil, and Hanna Breunig.

UC Regent Eloy Ortiz-Oakley visited the Lab on May 7 to learn about UC and Berkeley Lab partnerships. Ortiz-Oakley is the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, the largest system of higher education in the nation. He was appointed by Governor Brown in 2014 for a ten-year term. https://regents.universityofcalifornia.edu/
Perera will manage the Lab’s Export Control Compliance program and develop best practices to mitigate export control risks in Lab business processes and research. Previously, she was the Export Compliance Manager for Caterpillar, Inc. Her position was effective May 1. https://exportcontrol.lbl.gov/
On Monday, April 29, Lab Director Mike Witherell sent a Level-One message to all employees on sexual harassment in science.
Nominations for Exceptional Achievement and the Berkeley Lab Prize-Lifetime Achievement Awards are due June 30. The awards recognize staff for significant accomplishments in advancing the Lab’s mission and strategic goals. Honorees will be celebrated at a ceremony in the fall. https://recognition.lbl.gov/

After nearly 10 years, Kathy Yelick is leaving her role as Associate Lab Director for Computing Sciences, effective at the end of the year. She will continue to serve as a strategic advisor on Lab-wide initiatives while focusing on her research at the Lab and duties as a professor at UC Berkeley. https://cs.lbl.gov/news-media/news/2019/yelick
Flynn has been a manager within the Controller’s organization for ten years, with the past 20 months as acting controller. Prior to that, he served as a Financial Accounting and Controls Manager and Business Services Manager.
