Alain Schuhl (left) of France’s Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) toured the ALS and Molecular Foundry Sept. 27. The California Energy Commission’s Janea Scott visited the Lab yesterday to discuss emerging technologies that support the state’s clean energy goals. Scott toured FLEXLAB® and participated in research talks on cool surfaces, high-performance windows, and indoor air quality. Congressional staffers visited Berkeley Lab on Tuesday, hosted by the Society for Science at User Research Facilities (SSURF). They toured the ALS (pictured), NERSC, and ESnet. SSURF is a non-profit group working to advance awareness of research conducted at the nation’s user facilities. http://www.ssurf.org/
Chris Fall, director of DOE’s Office of Science, is visiting Berkeley Lab today and tomorrow. After a welcome from Lab leadership, he’ll meet with scientists representing a wide range of the Lab’s research capabilities and tour several user facilities. U.S. Reps. Barbara Lee, Jerry McNerney, and Bill Foster visited the Lab Monday. Foster and McNerney are members of the House Committee on Science, Space, & Technology. Masagos Zulkifli, the Minister of Environment and Water for Singapore, visited the Lab on July 12. Deputy Lab Director Horst Simon gave the minister and his delegation an overview of the Lab, which was followed by research presentations from scientists Amol Phakde, Ashok Gadgil, and Hanna Breunig.
Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (left) recently visited the Lab and met with researchers to discuss high performance computing and earthquake and climate modeling, biosciences and the circular economy, air quality and wildfire smoke, microgrids, and helping the state build resilience to climate change.
A May 28 Lab visit by Kenneth DeGraff (right), senior policy advisor to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, focused on translating Lab research into new economic opportunities for the U.S. His visit included meeting scientists, touring the ALS and Foundry, and viewing research presentations.
Berkeley Lab has a new website for visits and tours designed to provide visitors with practical guidelines, forms, and information. Visit requests involving high-level guests from U.S. and foreign government offices, academia, and industry leaders should be directed to the Protocol Office.
