Did you know that the Lab’s Emergency Management team has six white disaster containers placed around the Lab, one per evacuation zone, that contain emergency supplies such as food, water, and medical supplies? Tonya Petty and Rhett Persaud take us on a tour of one in this video. https://youtu.be/KFyVYY1WR1g
Impacts to Bldg. 50 Access Tomorrow
Stair access to Building 50 from the G1 parking lot and the sidewalk along Chu Road in front of Building 50 will be closed all day starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, for tree removal and pruning.
Three Questions For Emergency Manager Tonya Petty
The Lab’s location and geography put three disasters that might befall the Lab — earthquakes, wildfires, and landslides — at the top of the list of worries for Lab Emergency Manager Tonya Petty. We asked Petty how she, her team, and 700 Lab volunteers work to prepare for these hazards. https://stratcomm-elements.lbl.gov/2019/09/04/three-questions-for-lab-emergency-manager-tonya-petty/
Cafeteria and Coffee Bar to Close Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Both the Lab’s cafeteria and coffee bar will close at 1:30 p.m. this Friday. They will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 3 as their usual times following the three-day weekend.
Lost & Found at the Lab
Have you lost or found an item at the Lab? You can search for or deposit items at the Site Access Office in Building 65A. Items found on the shuttle buses are collected at the MV Transportation office in the basement of Building 50A.
Wanted: Missing Silverware, Cups, and Plates
The utensils, cups, and plates from the Lab’s cafeteria have been disappearing at an alarming rate. These items often run out during lunch service and the cost to replace them is being passed on to customers. Please return any items that may have “walked away” to the dish return area.
Dying Sequoia Near Building 33 To Be Removed Thursday
One of the giant sequoia redwoods near Building 33 needs to be removed. The Lab’s consulting arborist says the tree is dying and has become a falling hazard. Removal of this tree should promote the health of the other sequoias in the grove. The tree will be chipped on-site and returned to the earth.
Video: Running of the Goats!
No, this isn’t the goat version of the Lab Runaround race. These are our wildfire threat reduction experts moving to their new feeding grounds, with the help of their shepherd and his dogs, and personnel from Facilities. This is the goats’ last stop before departing the Hill for this year. https://youtu.be/mBOPJCqXxzY
