The Advanced Light Source and the Molecular Foundry are collecting clean, new or gently-worn coats for Alameda County Social Services. Employees who want to donate coats can bring them to drop-off boxes in the lobbies of Bldg. 6 or 67. The drive ends on Dec. 19. Lab Hosts Donation Drive for Local Food Bank
The Alameda County Food Bank is asking for donations of nonperishable food. Collection barrels are in the cafeteria (Building 54), Integrative Genomics Building (Bldg. 91), Wang Hall (Bldg. 59), ALS (Bldg. 6), and Molecular Foundry (Bldg. 67). The barrels will be in place now through Jan. 10.
Dec. 19 Training Sessions for K-12 Outreach
The K-12 Office will host training on Dec. 19 for volunteers interested in taking BLISS Kits into the classroom. Trainings will be offered at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will cover science topics, science communication, and classroom management. Sessions are offered each month. High School Science Contest Extended to Dec. 16
Berkeley Lab is capping its celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table with a contest for high school students. Those who best describe their favorite element with words and a visual component can win a Lab tour for their entire class. Lab Needs Emergency Volunteers
Emergency Management is sponsoring a series of training classes for Lab employees who want to become a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. CERT members receive training in basic first aid, light search and rescue operations, basic fire suppression, and transporting patients.
CA Assemblymember Tours Molecular Foundry
Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, representing California’s 16th District, met with scientists this week to learn about research to strengthen the bioeconomy, advance sustainable water solutions, and protect air quality.
